The company was founded in July of 2004 by Kathryn Fletcher. Since then, it has grown in popularity and extended its range; Velvet Olive now supply retailers of all sizes with their greetings cards, from small boutiques and card shops to well-known chain stores such as John Lewis and Paperchase.

The Wordy collection is one of the most popular. These cards feature, as the name suggests, a phrase or sentiment appropriate to the occasion, presented in an interesting font and with an unorthodox layout.
